You’re correct, there are many different opinions, it is best to maybe speak to your local imam and see what he says. There are many opinions so for us to give one while ignoring the others wouldn’t be fair in a sense.

Cleaning and reshaping are different so insha’Allah speaking to someone of extensive knowledge would be best.
