realfakescientist: The Right of the Fast Imam Zain Al Abideen (as) said in Risalat al Huquq/The Treatise on Rights:  The right of the fast is for you to know that it is a barrier placed by Allah on your speech, hearing, sight, stomach and chastity to protect you from the hell fire, and if you leave the fast (do not fast) you have broken Allah’s protection.  Just part of the reading I was doing last night in preparation to fast today, iA. thought I’d share. note: this is of course speaking to those with the ability to fast. fasting is not a requirement for the young children, the elderly at a certain point in their life, the sick, and traveling individuals for example.
