“We tend to view our parents as strict or harsh. As backwards or “too cultural.” As uncool or too uneducated about our lives. We tend to think they don’t know what we’re going through and how much we still have to face. We underestimate their knowledge, their love, their care. 

Were we easy to handle? Were we easy to deal with when we caused hours upon hours of labor on our mother? Were we easy

 to deal with while our parents barely got any sleep as they took care of us because really without them where would we be? Were we easy when we hit puberty and had these random outbursts of emotions that our parents had to deal with? Were we easy to handle when we yelled, kicked, raised our voices, disrespected, or disappointed our parents?

We weren’t easy to handle and we’re still not easy to handle. Yet here we are underestimating the worth and the works of our parents. Look at your clothe and your surroundings and your phone and your laptop and your things. How much of that did you buy yourself and how much was bought for you by your parents? Do they complain about buying groceries? Did they complain in finding a decent job so they could find a house so you and all your siblings can sleep peacefully? 

Sigh. 

Be kind to your parents because just as they are a test to you, you are also a test for them.”
